Monitoring Report 2025 published
20 years of market transparency: the Bundesnetzagentur and the Bundeskartellamt again present key figures on the electricity and gas markets.
The Bundesnetzagentur and the Bundeskartellamt have today published their twentieth joint monitoring report on developments in the electricity and gas markets. The report primarily relates to 2024 but also reflects relevant developments in 2025.
The variety of offers in the electricity and gas markets today is the largest ever since the start of monitoring. In 2024 about 7.1mn household electricity customers took the initiative to switch supplier, up by about 18% to a new all-time high. There was also a new record high in the gas market: around 2.3mn households switched supplier, about 500,000 more than in the previous year.
The average electricity price for household customers across all contract types as at 1 April 2025 was 40.1 ct/kWh, about 4% lower than a year earlier. The average gas price for household customers on the same date was 12.13 ct/kWh, down 3% on the year before.
