New data on electricity prices for household customers

-

SMARD’s “Energy data compact” section now includes information on the monthly electricity prices for household customers and the price components as well as a comparison between dynamic electricity prices and fixed prices for new and existing customers.

SMARD has added to its range of information on electricity prices to supplement its modelled industrial electricity prices and household customer price indices. The information now includes charts showing the monthly electricity prices for household customers in cents per kilowatt hour (ct/kWh) and a comparison between dynamic tariffs and fixed prices for new and existing customers.

The charts show the monthly electricity and gas prices for household customers and how they are made up. This gives consumers a clear overview of the current developments in prices.

Since 1 January 2025 all competitive electricity suppliers have had to offer dynamic electricity prices. These dynamic prices are based on the wholesale electricity price and open up the possibility for consumers to shift their electricity consumption specifically to times when prices are low.

The Bundesnetzagentur bases the modelled dynamic electricity prices on day-ahead prices and a typical household’s consumption. A comparison with the modelled fixed prices shows the changes in the two types of tariffs over time.

The new information can be found in the “Energy data compact” section and is updated each month.
