Switch to summer time on Sunday

-

This Sunday marks the start of daylight saving time when clocks go forward one hour. This time change is also reflected in the SMARD time series.

In the night from Saturday to Sunday clocks are moved forward by one hour, skipping the hour from 2am to 3am. This hour does not appear in the SMARD time series either.

Although there are no “jumps” in the time series, the missing hour can cause confusion. If you move your mouse over the time when the clocks change, the time jumps from 1am to 3am in the hourly resolution and from 1.45am to 3am in the quarter-hour resolution.

This also happens when you download data. This is why it is important to be aware of this missing hour when you compare data over several days.

The change from summer to winter time on the last Sunday in October will then compensate for the “lost” hour. When clocks are moved back again from 3am to 2am the hour appears twice, bringing the total number of hours back to normal, which means that you can easily compare annual figures.
