Redispatching – costs per megawatt hour

Redispatching – costs per megawatt hour and total costs since July 2022

If generation from renewable energy installations is curtailed, financial compensation has to be paid to the installations’ operators. In addition, the curtailments have to be balanced out by other measures that also cause costs, such as compensation payments for balance responsible parties, trading on the exchange and ramping up operational or grid reserve power plants.

In the case of negative redispatching with conventional power plants, fuel is saved, but the redispatching measures also have to be balanced out by either trading on the exchange or ramping up operational or grid reserve power plants, which also causes costs.

The chart with the redispatching costs per megawatt hour (MWh) shows the total costs (costs incurred from ramping up and down) in relation to each unit of energy reduced.
